How We Check the Quality of Every Corrugated Box Before Dispatch
A look inside the inspection sequence every batch passes through at our Chennai plant, from raw reel to final dispatch audit.
Box quality is decided in stages, not at the loading bay. A batch that leaves our plant with the right bursting strength and a clean, square finish has passed through several checkpoints along the way, each catching a different category of fault before it can compound into a failed carton.
This is the sequence we follow on every production run at our Chennai facility, from the paper reel arriving at the gate to the pallet being loaded onto the dispatch vehicle.
The inspection sequence
What happens at each stage
- 1
Raw material and reel inspection
Incoming kraft paper reels are checked against the supplier's mill certificate and visually inspected for moisture damage, tears or uneven winding before they are cleared for the corrugator.
- 2
GSM and bursting factor verification
Sample strips are cut and weighed to confirm the paper meets the GSM specified for that order, and cross-checked against the expected bursting factor for the grade.
- 3
Corrugation and glue bond check
As board comes off the corrugator, operators check flute formation and pull-test the liner-to-flute bond to confirm the starch adhesive has cured to full strength.
- 4
Printing and die-cut checks
Printed sheets are checked for registration and colour consistency, and die-cut sheets are checked for clean, complete cuts with no ragged or uncut sections at the creases.
- 5
Dimensional and squareness check
Finished boxes are measured against the approved drawing and checked on a flat surface for square, even flaps and consistent panel dimensions.
- 6
Compression and burst sampling
A sample from each batch is tested for bursting strength and edge crush to confirm it meets the specification agreed at order stage, not just at the prototype stage.
- 7
Moisture check
Board moisture content is measured, since board that is too dry becomes brittle and board that is too damp loses compression strength — both are common risks in Chennai's coastal humidity.
- 8
Final dispatch audit
Before loading, a final sample from the palletised stock is pulled and checked against the original order specification and packing list before the vehicle leaves the plant.
This sequence exists because each stage catches a different fault. Reel inspection stops a bad batch of paper from ever reaching the corrugator. Compression sampling catches faults that are invisible to the eye. The dispatch audit is the last line of defence and confirms that what is loaded matches what was ordered.
None of these checks add meaningfully to lead time when they are built into the production line rather than bolted on afterward — which is why we can still quote and turn around most custom orders within days of approval.
